In the NT, a good picnic isn’t just about the food - it’s about the location. Waterfalls, sunsets, beaches, and wide-open spaces just hit differently when you’ve got a cold platter packed and ready to go. Here are five of our favourite places in the Territory to roll out the picnic rug and settle in for the afternoon.
1. Berry Springs Nature Park
Cold water, shady picnic spots, and an easy drive from Darwin. Berry Springs is a Territory classic. Pack the swimmers, bring the platter, and don’t forget your pool noodle.
2. Mindil Beach
Sunset picnics just don’t get better than this. Set up on the sand, watch the sky change colours, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon with friends before the famous Darwin sunset rolls in.
3. Florence Falls
One of the best swimming spots in the Territory. Spend the day chasing waterfalls, cooling off in the plunge pool, and setting up a picnic surrounded by the beauty of Litchfield National Park.
4. East Point Reserve
Perfect for a casual afternoon picnic with ocean views and sea breezes. There’s plenty of room to spread out, relax, and graze while watching the waves roll in.
5. Gunn Point
If you love a more off-grid Territory adventure, Gunn Point is hard to beat. Beach driving, fishing, sunsets, and a Chilly Platter full of snacks - that’s a proper Top End afternoon.
At Top End ChillyCo, we designed The Chilly Platter for exactly these kinds of moments , because good food outdoors should stay cold long enough to actually enjoy it.
